This is what Chandigarh’s daughter did today – 27th March 2014

The Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Chandigarh – Gulkirat Kaur Panag began her day at Dhanas village. While interacting with citizens and discussing the appalling hygiene and sanitation condition, Gul highlighted the 2 Chandigarhs that exist and have become part of our sad reality – one of the haves and the other of the have-nots. The Chandigarh of the privileged is clean and relatively orderly, but the Chandigarh of the villages and colonies is suffering in squalor and filth. Gulkirat said, “It reflects the complete apathy and insensitivity of the existing government and shows the extent of the corruption that infiltrates the entire system preventing appropriate allocation of funds and execution of the plans required to lift communities out of such terrible living conditions.”

Gul squarely put the blame for the situation on the people’s representatives, the MP and the MC. In the last 25 years Chandigarh has had either the BJP or Congress in power. In fact Mr. Bansal has been MP here for 4 terms. She pointed out that the current state of affairs had not developed in a day, it was the result of the MP and MC and the parties in power, not doing their job, over the last three decades.

Gul thereafter met and interacted with residents at the PGI Langar.
She interacted with patients and relatives, many of who had traveled great distances for medical aid, and heard their grievances. Gul said “the claim by Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal to have improved the infrastructure at PGI falls flat on the basis of the long ques that and the poor doctor-patient ratio the hospital suffers from, due to the poor primary and secondary healthcare facilities in Chandigarh.”

The later part of the afternoon saw Gul in Sector 17 meeting and interacting with shoppers and hearing out their grievances, to make the Sector 17 plaza more friendly to the needs of the shoppers. Gul was quick to point out the need for more parking space, for which she said that we will evaluate mechanisms for basement and multilevel parking facilities, which would be in sync with the inherent character of the city.

More members of the Congress Party who are fed up with the corrupt and inefficient ways of the party joined the Aam Aadmi Party and Gulkirat Kaur Panag today. Mr Parminder Jaswal Goldy along with 20 other former Congress party workers pledged their support to the Aam Aadmi Party and their fight for a corruption free and secular India.

Gul ended her day with a rally at Sector 21 which was organised by the youth volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party. Gul was joined at the jan sabha by noted singer Jassi Jasraj who unequivocally extended his support to Gul and the Aam Aadmi Party. While addressing the gathering Gul said “India is in a unique position with a large youth population. In other countries this sort of ratio has led to transformational growth. The corrupt and professional politicians who form our governments are wasting the opportunity to mobilise the youth and use that potential to the fullest. There is rampant unemployment coupled with a lack of suitable jobs. Our youth is forced to look for jobs in other states when the opportunity should be made available here in Chandigarh first.”
