About Gul

Gul Panag is the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate for the 16th Lok Sabha from Chandigarh.

Gul Panag has been a consistent activist for a better India and an influential opinion maker known to speak fearlessly on a variety of issues ranging from safety of women and citizen responsibility to strategic & foreign affairs. She has used her considerable influence on social media platforms to facilitate debates on serious issues and endeavours to amplify important causes. With an active interest in promoting citizen-government partnership towards gender equality, addiction awareness, education, employment and disaster management, Gul began her own NGO –The Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation. Gul has also devoted her time to promote work done by independent NGOs on children, education and women’s issues.

Gul’s social activism has dovetailed with the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP is a revolution in Indian politics that seeks to transform government from a corrupt overlord of the people to its correct role of public service. India has a vast number of problems that remain unchecked because the peoples representatives and their government is dysfunctional, corrupt and disinterested. AAP’s agenda of systemic reform of government and its vision of a government that performs its duties to the citizens while concurrently addressing social problems aligns perfectly with Gul’s own social agenda. Gul has been honoured with the opportunity to participate in this revolution in a leading role as the Lok Sabha candidate from Chandigarh. Gul is and has been committed to work tirelessly for the people of Chandigarh, providing them with a credible alternative to the existing redundant political choices.

Gul is an acclaimed actor who has been part of the entertainment industry for the last 15 years with many accolades and awards to her name. After winning Miss India from Chandigarh, Gul went on to play powerful characters in her films Dhoop, Dor, Manorama Six Feet Under, Straight, Fatso, and most recently, her Punjabi film Sikander. She has emerged as a thinking actor; her choice of work setting her apart from her contemporaries. She is also well known as an icon for a healthier lifestyle. A serial half-marathon runner, Gul is the brand ambassador for the Pinkathon, an all-women’s marathon that seeks to promote healthier lifestyle among women and raise awareness for breast cancer.

Born into a 2nd generation armed forces family in Chandigarh in 1979. Gul has studied and lived across various cities in India due to her father’s frequent transfers. By the end of her schooling she had changed 14 schools, among them many Kendriya Vidyalayas and The Lawrence School Lovedale. Gul received a Bachelor’s of Arts majoring in Mathematics, Economics and Political Science from the Government College for Girls, Patiala. She recently returned to Chandigarh to complete her Masters in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
